Outside Sports x Te Araroa Partnership Statement

Outside Sports and the Te Araroa Trust have an enduring partnership aimed at building a regenerative trail network that sustains itself. We support the Te Araroa Trust with contributions from retail sales and will be developing and selling products in support of the Trust. We also lend our expertise in outdoor adventures by curating a range of world-class apparel, footwear and equipment for walkers that makes their experience on the trail safer, more comfortable, and more enjoyable.

About the Te Araroa Trail

Te Araroa is one of the world’s most diverse walking trails. The 3012 kilometre route winds its way over mountain passes, around volcanoes, across sweeping plains, beside meandering rivers, and through bustling cities and rural towns from one end of New Zealand to the other.

But the Te Araroa trail doesn’t have to be walked in its entirety, or all at once. You can walk a little or the whole lot, whatever works for you. Each year approximately 2,000 people walk the trail as one continuous journey, and countless more complete shorter, local sections.

A regenerative trail

The Te Araroa Trust was established in 1994 to develop, maintain and promote Te Araroa as a regenerative trail. For that to happen it’s essential that all walkers register and make an affordable financial contribution to the Trust for the privilege of enjoying the trail network.

Regeneration for Te Araroa means:

Supporting the purposes and aspirations of mana whenua

Protecting and enhancing biodiversity along the trail corridor

Supporting local businesses and fostering economic opportunities

Improving the trail and its infrastructure whilst minimising environmental impact

Providing an experience that enhances the wellbeing of walkers and communities.
