The amazing Carv digital ski boot insert at Outside Sports can help intermediate skiers develop more control, advanced skiers push their limits, and refine the effortless form of experts – even double Olympic champions likeTed Ligety, who uses Carv to make micro improvements to his legendary technique.

How Carv works

Carv breaks down your skiing into 12 objective, accurate metrics, then helps you improve each metric so you will progress in every aspect of skiing performance. Carv metrics include:

  • Turn shape
  • Forward movement
  • G Force
  • Weight transfer
  • Edge angles

How Carv will help you ski better

Assess your technique
Carv captures pressure and motion data every turn you’ve made, 20 times a second. Over just a few turns, it will build a picture of which part of your technique is holding you back. This metric will form your next focus area.

Focus on specific improvement areas
Using your data, Carv will give you feedback on specific areas to focus on and will give you personalised tips, drills and games tailored to your level so you’ll have a clear path to improvement.

Apart from improving your skiing Carv is also a lot of fun!

Skiing from the sole

The Carv sensor is a sleek 3mm thin insert that fits almost underneath the liner of your ski boot, and once you get going you won’t even know it’s there.

Each Carv insert has 36 pressure sensors that work together to produce data that is processed into 12 performance metrics, 20 times a second, giving you real-time feedback into your skiing technique. Carv calls the output your Ski IQ.

Carv works with custom boots and inserts
Because the Carv insert fits underneath your boot liner, you only need to fit it once. By placing Carv underneath the liner, its compatible with pretty much any ski boot:
  • off-the-shelf boots
  • custom moulded boots
  • custom insoles (because Carv goes under the liner)
  • custom heel lifts
  • boot warmers (because Carv goes under the liner)
  • plug boots

Carv is now in 35,000 boots worldwide, which means they have people happily skiing in almost every boot available – and fewer than 1% of Carv members have any issue with boot fit and most that can be resolved with a trip to the boot fitter’s workshop. However they worked for Ted Ligety right out of the box with no boot modifications needed, and chances are it will be the same story for you.

Race boots
Carv does work with racing boots, however, if you have extremely tight boots you might may need to modify their boots or boot board to fit Carv. Our expert boot fitters at Wanaka and Queenstown will be able to help you refine your fit.

So if you want to progress you skiing faster and refine your technique Carv is definately worth a look – and what’s more Outside Sports is the only ski shop in the whole world to have a lifetime Carv membership included in the purchase price.
