Why the new Nnormal trail running shoes are anything but normal!

Nnormal is the brainchild of legendary mountain running phenomenon Kilian Jornet and the world-renowned family-owned footwear company Camper. The name is the combination of Norway where Kilian lives and Mallorca where Camper was born. All Nnormal products are designed in Mallorca and tested in Norway. 

Now NNormal has arrived in New Zealand at Outside Sports with two shoe models – the Tomir and the Kjerag. Already Nnormal shoes are delivering on Kilian’s promise of high-performance, comfort and incredible durability. In 2022 Kilian competed in four classic mountain endurance races (winning three of them) - all in the same pair of shoes! 

The big names behind Nnormal.

For the last 15 years, Kilian has dominated the ski mountaineering and trail running scene, winning all major championships and races across the globe. Kilian also holds speed records in mountains around the world, including a double ascent of Mount Everest. Kilian lives in Norway where he continues to explore his limits in mountain sports. Kilian is also a highly active climate advocate dedicated to raising awareness about environmental protection. 

Camper 
Camper’s origins are in Mallorca where Antonio Fluxa introduced the first shoemaking machines in 1877. In 1975 by Lorenzo Fluxa, Antonio’s grandson, established Camper dedicated to footwear that combined quality, comfort, and innovation. Camper means ‘peasant’ in the local Mallorcan dialect, and the company embraces austerity and simplicity. 

Nnormal’s mission 
Kilian says, “we want to be very honest on how we produce the equipment and on the role the company wants to play for the society and the environment. This means transparency and working to avoid overconsumption by building products that are durable. To have a minor impact on the environment, we need to work with various materials and explore different designs. It’s a long and difficult path but that’s what motivates me and the team to start this project.”
