Like all the best outdoor brands NEMO was created by an avid adventurer who recognised a genuine need for a better product. In 2002 during a sleepless night spent in a storm in a poorly designed backpacking tent on Mount Washington in New Hampshire, NEMO founder Cam Brensinger realized how important thoughtful design is. It enables us to enjoy the adventures that inspire us be the best version of ourselves - humans who are conscious, inspired, connected, and mindful (which aligns perfectly with our philosophy at Outside Sports!)

NEMO Leading The Way in Outdoor Adventures
Once he made it back down the mountain Cam sprang into action and worked for two years building prototypes of his innovative new air beam-supported tents.
Just three years later in 2005 the NEMO air-beam tent was the overall winner of the ISPO Brand New Award and was named by TIME Magazine and Popular Science as among their 100 best inventions of the year. Since then, NEMO has expanded to offer an innovative range of lightweight, yet durable backpacking tents, sleeping bags, and sleeping mats that continue to lead the way in the outdoor adventure market.
By the way if you’re wondering where the name NEMO came from it was inspired by Jules Verne’s unstoppable hero Captain Nemo and also alludes to NEMO’s home - New England Mountain Outfitters.
NEMO's Endless Promise
The best expression of NEMO’s philosophy of thoughtful design is their Endless Promise. The NEMO team recognised that circularity is the key to keeping their camping gear out of the landfill. Product circularity means making items last longer by being easier to repair and easier to resell to be used by other people, and then at the end of their life easier to recycle into new products without waste. The concept is that this circularity can continue endlessly.
The Mono-Polymer Approach to Circularity
For NEMO delivering on their Endless Promise meant a mono-polymer approach to material was needed. Mono-polymer design means creating a product that’s nearly entirely made from a single material family. While basic outdoor gear typically uses five to ten different materials in a single product, NEMO Endless Promise products use just one – polyester, which is currently the easiest material to fully recycle.
NEMO OSMO Tent Fabric
NEMO’s OSMO tent fabric is the perfect example of being true to the promise of endless circularity. The first tent fabric its kind, OSMO was designed by the NEMO team for exceptional performance and reduced impact on the planet.
OSMO tent fabric is made from 100% recycled yarns free from PFAS yet still delivers 4x better water repellency and 3x less stretch when wet.
NEMO Mayfly, Hornet, Dragonfly, and Dagger tents all use 100% recycled OSMO fabric for high performance with a lower environmental footprint. At Outside Sports we carry a full range of NEMO OSMO tents for one to three people.
